PhotoAge Concern Shropshire Telford & Wrekin
is a local charity
which works tirelessly to make life better for older people in the county of Shropshire.

Age Concern nationally and Help the Aged have joined to form a new charity called Age UK. We are now working towards entering a partnership with the new organisation and changing our name. When we do that  - which we hope will be later this year - we will still be a local charity, funded locally and providing the same services for older people here in Shropshire

We have  been working in Shropshire for nearly 60 years. Our  headquarters are  in Shrewsbury and  we have offices in Telford, Ludlow and Whitchurch

Appeal logo for those with dementia and their carers

Our organisation is 60 years old in November 2010. Trustees decided that to celebrate 60 years of helping and supporting older people in the county - we should run an appeal to raise money to allow us to introduce a new service. After careful consideration it has been decided that the greatest need locally at present is additional support for those with dementia and their carers.

5,440 people are currently diagnosed with dementia - most of those people will have a carer so that means that the lives of perhaps 10,000 people in Shropshire are being affected by this illness.  Helping is a huge challenge. We want to work with other local organisations to build on  and learn from existing good practice. Money raised by the Diamond Appeal will enable us to set up - first one and then hopefully several more - drop-in centres in the county for those with dementia and those who care for them.

Could you help us by holding a fundraising event for the appeal - or donating the money raised at an event organised by a club or group of which you are a member? To request a fundraising pack contact us at: diamond.appeal@ageconcernshrops.org.uk  or phone us on 01743 233123.

Please do something to help - we need just £25,000 to start this valuable work.
